​Charity Checklist ©

In order to objectively provide a qualitative ranking system for charity organizations, Quintessence has developed a Charity Checklist ©. Our research methodology is based on a carefully compiled series of questions, with over 200 criteria used to evaluate a charity organization. For each criterion, the organization is awarded a certain number of points. Points determine a qualitative ranking. The following criteria are used:

• Legal entity (national/international);
• Board of Directors (members and structure, authority, stipends)
• Fundraising (transparency, communication and expenditure)
• Publicity and PR (objectivity, privacy, customer care services)
• Financial administration (net assets, investments, debts and property)
• Expenditure and accountability (earmarked funds, risk analysis, audits)
• Effectiveness (societal, target groups, outcomes, long term)

The total number of points awarded in each of the above categories (maximum of 600) determines the allocation of stars (*). A total number of 5 stars may be awarded. An organization’s number of stars is a simple way to identify the quality of the organization and to what extent this organization will be able to meet your needs and wishes. 
Our evaluation is conducted by a team of qualified and skilled specialists and comprises the following:

• A careful analysis of all available public documents of the organization (any missing documents relevant to the analysis, are requested)
• An interview with the Managing Director or Board.
• A personal visit to the offices of the organization (only if further information is required)
• A report which will only be made available to our client.

Additional analyses available
For charities with a very specific focus (such as Christian or other religious affiliation) additional checklists may be used. Also, if you have specific questions or concerns that are not yet covered in our standard checklist, these can be included in the analysis and final report. Would you like to know more or request an evaluation?
